Mammen Mathew (65) will take charge as Chief Editor and Managing Director of Malayala Manorama on Wednesday, a press note said.
Mr. Mathew, who has 44 years of publication experience, is the eldest son of K.M. Mathew, who was the Chief Editor of the daily till his demise on August 1.
After completing his post graduation from St. Stephen's College in New Delhi, Mr. Mathew underwent editorial training in TheTimes of India . He then joined Malayala Manorama as its New Delhi correspondent.
In 1968, he joined the Western Mail in Cardiff, United Kingdom, as reporter. He has also worked with Sunday Times under Sir Harold Evans. The following year he joined Oklahoma City Times and later Daily Oklahoma .
Mr. Mathew rejoined Malayala Manorama in 1970 as its Resident Editor in Kozhikode. Ten years later, he took charge as General Manager and Managing Editor here. Since 1988, he had been functioning as the Editor and Managing Director.
Mr. Mathew had been the president of the Editors Guild of India and the Indian Newspaper Society. He had served as the chairman of the Indian chapter of the Commonwealth Press Union. He was twice a member of the Press Council of India. At present he is member of the Prime Minister's National Integration Council and the National Security Advisory Board.
Mr Mathew is also a Director Trustee of the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, which runs the international news agency Thomson Reuters. He is the first Indian Director Trustee of the 150-year-old company.
