Procedures have already been started to make Malayalam the language of the courts in the State, Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph has said.
Addressing the valedictory of golden jubilee celebrations of the State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications here on Saturday, the minister said the Malayalam has already become a world language as there was no place in the world where there is no Malayalee.
“More than 800 centres are functioning outside Kerala under the Malayalam Mission for Malayalam learning. This is for the benefit of non-resident Malayalees,” he said.
The language has great advantage in the time of knowledge explosion, he added.
Timely changes needed Though the States were formed on the basis of language in 1956, the Malayalam University was formed only in 2012, he noted. The State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications should undergo timely changes by utilising advancements of science and technology, he said.
State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications Director M.T. Sulekha presided over the function. P.C. Chacko,MP, released ‘Samskarikam’ a golden jubilee souvenir on the occasion. Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, received the book. Writer and orator M.K. Sanoo delivered the key-note address.
Kerala Sahitya Akademi President Perumbadavam Sreedharan, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Secretary P.V. Krishnan Nair and others spoke at the function.
Seminar held A seminar on ‘Kerala’s development and cultural organisation” was held on the occasion. Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture Registrar K.K. Sundaresan, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Secretary R. Gopalakrishnan, Kerala Lalitakala Akademi Secretary Sreemoolanagaram Mohan, Kerala Folklore Akademi Chairman Mohamed Bin Ahmed, Kunjan Nambiar Memorial Chairman P. Sivadas and others presented papers.
Digitisation Founded in 1961, the State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications has published 15 volumes. Each volume has about 1,500 articles. The institute has also published previous editions in revised form now. The institute is now digitising the published volumes of Sarvavinjanakosam.
