Malayalam gets its due regard

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

A gathering of Civil Services aspirants who have taken Malayalam as their main subject here turned out to be a unique event on Saturday.

As many as 80 Malayalam students from different parts of the State attended the function organised by the Ensign Civil Services Study Group.

Speaking at the function, Malayalam University Vice Chancellor and former Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar said a civil servant should acquire knowledge by interacting with people.

“Personality,” he said, “is the biggest recognition for anyone. A language becomes classical only when it gets respect through use. We need to build a generation, which finds energy in their mother tongue.”

The gathering turned out to be the first such in the State. Mr. Jayakumar instilled confidence in the group about taking Malayalam for the Civil Services Examinations.

Ensign team leader K.P. Ashif presided. Ensign group director Ahamed Saju, and S. Bijesh addressed the gathering. M. Jouhar welcomed the gathering.

K. Gopika proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. Jayakumar also gave away the trophies to the winners of an essay competition on “the politics of Khazak” organised under the banner of the Malayala Shree, a collective of Malayalam students.
