The CPI(M) is on the verge of a historical collapse, Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said.
He was addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Thrissur Press Club on Wednesday.
“The CPI(M) should apologise to the people after confessing its role in T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case. Otherwise, the people of Kerala, one of the few States where the CPI(M) has a presence, will discard it from their mind.”
The CPI(M) and the Left Democratic Front would have to pay a heavy price if they continued in the path of violence, he said. A humiliating failure was awaiting the LDF in the Lok Sabha election. The UDF will score more seats than in the previous election, he said.
“The LDF still could not convince its followers why it had to hire candidates for this election. The guilty feeling of T.P. Chandrasekharan murder is haunting the CPI(M) workers. That scar is still fresh in their minds. The youth has been distancing themselves from the CPI(M). The campaigns of the CPI(M) lack youngsters even when 15 lakh new voters have been added to the voters list this time,” he said.
The people would evaluate Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan’s volte face on the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case. He asked whether Mr. Achuthanandan who sent a letter to the State government seeking a CBI probe in T.P. case would send a second letter for that now.
