The LPG truck workers’ strike which was supposed to begin on Tuesday was called off following a meeting of truck owners and representatives of workers’ union convened by the Additional Labour Commissioner S. Thulaseedharan. The workers of the Udayamperoor IOC, Karimukal BPCL, Chelari IOC, Kanjikkode HPC, Irumbanam HPC and Kazhakuttam BPC had called for the strike demanding better wages.
As per the understanding arrived at the meeting, in normal trucks for local trips up to 200 kilometres, the truck owners will have to give drivers ₹950 in the first year, ₹1010 in the second year and ₹1075 in the third year. For Taurus lorries, for local trips up to 200 kilometres, the truck owners will have to give drivers ₹1,280 in the first year, ₹1,360 in the second year and ₹1,450 in the third year.
For cleaners in normal trucks, the rate will be ₹495 for each trip in the first year, ₹526 in the second year and ₹560 in the third year. In Taurus lorries, the rates will ₹580 per trip in the first year, ₹616 in the second year and ₹665 in the third year.
For drivers taking 12 loads from the LPG plant, the monthly incentive will be ₹750, for loads between 13 and 18, it will be ₹1,250 and above 19 loads, it will be ₹1,750.
