The United Democratic Front (UDF) government will not dilute the liquor policy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.
He was addressing ‘Porinte Pooram 2016’ organised by the Thrissur Press Club on Tuesday. The Minister said the UDF meeting on Wednesday would discuss the new bar licence given to six hotels.
“The decision on giving licence to bars in five star hotels was taken as part of tourism development. The five star hotels will approach the court even if the government does not give them the licence,” the Minister said, when mediapersons questioned him about the government’s commitment in implementing the liquor policy.
He asked the Left Democratic Front whether it had the guts to announce liquor ban in a phased manner.
“The UDF ensured peaceful life for the people. The law and order situation was perfect. There was no custodial murder or police shooting incidents. The UDF is facing the people with a good progress report,” he said. The BJP-BDJS group would not be able to open account in the State, he added.
Asked about the Congress-Communist Party of India tie-up in West Bengal, he said the situation there demanded it.
