Officials of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) in Thiruvalla have been put to task following a major leak on the main waterline of the Kuttanad Water Supply Scheme which was detected at Ramanchira on the MC Road on Friday.

The damage to the pipeline has resulted in disruption of water supply to Changanacherry municipal limits as well as the panchayats of Vazhappally, Kurichy, and Paipad from Friday for about 36 hours, according to KWA sources.

However, KWA has repaired the defect and restored supply on Saturday afternoon.

Bursting of the old asbestos pipes carrying potable water from the pumping station and treatment plant situated on the banks of river Pampa at Kallisserry to Thiruvalla and Changanacherry municipal limits has become a regular feature.

Replacing the old asbestos with cast iron pipes was the only solution to rectify the defect, the KWA said.
