The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will launch an indefinite siege to the Secretariat from August 12 demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and a judicial probe into the solar panel scam.
Briefing presspersons about the decisions of the LDF State committee which met here on Wednesday, convener Vaikom Viswan said the ongoing day and night Satyagraha in the districts would culminate on August 4 and vehicle jathas would be taken out all over the State to explain the reasons for the indefinite siege to the Secretariat from August 12.
The jathas would tour the State on August 5, 6, and 7. All allies of the front would mobilise workers to participate in the siege. The LDF Thiruvananthapuram district committee will form a committee for organising the protests.
Black flag protests
Asked whether the agitators would permit the staff and the public to enter the Secretariat, Mr. Viswan said that it would be in line with similar agitations held earlier. The LDF boycott of public functions of Mr. Chandy and black flag protests against him would continue. The mass contact drive of the Chief Minister too would not be exempted from such protests.
The ongoing agitation had got massive public support. Being engaged with the settlement of the solar panel scam, the government was unable to address serious issues such as inflation. Though his office had become the nerve centre of corruption and the court had passed adverse remarks, the Chief Minister was trying to remain in power, he said.
The committee chaired by Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan passed a resolution against the spurt in violence on the M.G. College campus on Monday. The attacks on teachers, their residences, vehicles and other violence on the campus were unprecedented. The delayed arrival and inaction of the police worsened the situation. The incident occurred with the knowledge of the police. After unleashing violence, those behind the incidents called for a hartal. The committee registered its protest against the incident.
