The LDF State committee has decided to intensify the alliance’s agitation to press for Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s resignation and a judicial inquiry into the ‘solar scam’.

Briefing reporters after an LDF panel meeting here on Tuesday, front convener Vaikom Viswan said the alliance would take the agitation to the people with vehicle jathas in all Assembly constituencies on July 1 and 2, demonstrations at the booth/ panchayat levels on July 3, and marches to select government offices in all Assembly constituencies on July 4.

Mr. Viswan said the solar scam had taken place with the “knowledge and connivance” of the Chief Minister and that he was trying to shield the guilty.

The ongoing investigation into the scam was a “sham’ as the very trajectory of the investigation had been changed to shield the Chief Minister. The Home Minister had also declared what would be the ultimate outcome of the current police investigation, he said. Replying to questions, the LDF convener said the panel did not discuss the allegations against Janata Dal (Secular) legislator Jose Thettayil. “An investigation is on. Many things come up from time to time. We will discuss this issue once the investigation is over,” he said and asserted, in reply to a specific question, that there was no “double standard” in the LDF’s response to the allegations against Mr. Thettayil. He was also certain that the issue was not one that would hurt the image of the LDF.
