LDF promoting horse-trading: Thankachan

February 22, 2013 02:39 am | Updated 02:39 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan has said that the Left Democratic Front’s call to bring down the Oommen Chandy government is nothing but an attempt to indulge in horse-trading and promote defections.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Thankachan asserted that the LDF would not be successful in poaching a single party in the ruling coalition. The public pronouncement in this regard soon after an LDF State committee meeting was only intended to create confusion among officials. The move was a cheap gimmick to influence at least a section of officials. He said several of the agitations sponsored by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the LDF had failed miserably because popular sentiment was in favour of the Chandy government.

He maintained that there were no differences among the coalition partners of the ruling front that would seriously affect the functioning of the government. “There is no doubt that the government will complete its term in office,” he said.
