The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government enjoys a clear majority and there is no need for it to accept any new dangers, CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran has said.

He was inaugurating a representatives’ meeting at the ongoing CPI district conference at Mavelikara near here on Saturday.

Hardening his stance against the proposed entry of Kerala Congress (M) into the LDF, Mr. Rajendran said: “The LDF regained power with 91 seats. It enjoys a clear majority and there is no need for the front to accept any new dangers. It is not our policy to send an ambulance to help everyone in distress,” he said.

Mr. Rajendran further called to expand the left base in the State. “Those who left the LDF should come back. The CPI will always try not to weaken the Left front,” Mr. Rajendran said.

He said a secular alternative at the national level was the need of the hour. “To fight the Sangh Parivar forces and the BJP, a platform of all like-minded parties, including the Congress, should be formed. It should be a platform against fascism and not necessarily an election tie-up,” he said.

Mr. Rajendran said the CPI would continue to oppose the Athirappilly hydel project.
