The Left Democratic Front (LDF) State convener, Vaikom Viswan, has said that the LDF would ensure the ‘status quo would be maintained’ in the relationship with the Kerala Congress (Joseph).
Dubbing P. J. Joseph a ‘betrayer’, Mr. Viswan said that the Kerala Congress (J) leader was espousing the cause of secularism as long as he was with the LDF, but now has become part of those championing the cause of religious communalism.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the rally organised to celebrate May Day here on Saturday, Mr. Viswan said that the LDF has not so far discussed the issue of ministership for the faction that had decided to stick on to the LDF (in spite of the quitting of the dominant faction).
The LDF convener said the involvement of religious leaders in political matters was not a healthy development. This should be viewed differently from the right to freedom of belief, he said and added that the CPI(M) would be in the forefront in the fight for their rights.
