Land being earmarked for a road overbridge across the railway track at Eravipuram in Kollam district on Tuesday.

The preliminary work on the road overbridge across the railway track at Eravipuram has begun. A sum of ₹40.49 crore has been allotted by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) for the construction, Eravipuram MLA M. Noushad has said.

The KIIFB director board meeting held last month had accorded administrative sanction for the project. The preliminary work on earmarking the site of the overbridge began on Tuesday.

The work pertains to earmarking the land required for the purpose and it was carried out by KITCO Limited, the consultants for KIIFB.

Mr. Noushad said the land required for the project was identified on Tuesday itself and earmarked with survey stones.

The public sector Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala will be entrusted with the construction of the overbridge. The railway authorities have already given green signal for the project.

As per the plan, the overbridge will be 800 metres long. It will extend from Eravipuram ST Junction to Thirumukku. A road overbridge across the railway track was a long-standing demand of the people of Eravipuram.
