Land acquisition for runway work soon: CM

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that steps for acquiring land required for extending the runway of the Kannur International Airport here to 4,000 metres will begin soon.

Speaking at a meeting of Kannur International Airport Ltd. (KIAL) officials at the project site near Mattannur here on Sunday, the Chief Minister directed District Collector P. Bala Kiran to begin the formalities for the acquisition.

He also announced at the meeting that the works for developing six existing roads to the airport project site would begin soon.

Talks soon with construction firm

It was also decided that KIAL Managing Director V. Thulasidas would hold discussions with the construction company for installing runway lighting up to a length of 900 metres.

The meeting also decided to complete the airport drainage works by November.

Works are also under way to check mud water from the construction site from entering nearby residential areas.
