The Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board (KKVIB) has set a sales target of Rs.14.4 crore from Onam fairs conducted by the board this festival season.

At a press conference here on Thursday, KKVIB secretary G.S. Sreekumaran Nair said the sales turnover of the board's Onam fairs last year was Rs.13.7 crore as against the target of Rs.12.4 crore. The Onam-Ramzan season sales target of the fair conducted at the Payyannur Khadi Kendra under the board this festival season was Rs.4.5 crore, he said.

The khadi products available at the fairs included Khadi clothes from the State and those made by khadi centres recognised by the All India Khadi Commission, Mr. Nair said. A collection of silk saris of different varieties, jute saris, cotton, silk, and polyester shirts and cane products would be available.

The Khadi Onam Fair in the district would be inaugurated by Rural Development Minister K.C. Joseph at the District Khadi Village Industries Office premises here on Friday. Mr. Nair said the targeted sales turnover at the fair here was Rs.1.5 crore. The fair would continue till September 8. Attractive sales promotion schemes and gift coupons would be implemented.
