KVASU to postpone shifting of projects

Final decision to be taken in February

A meeting of the board of management of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) held at Pookode here on Wednesday decided to postpone its plan to shift out the proposed infrastructure projects from its headquarters at Pookode to other campuses of the university.

The decision came on a request by M.V. Seryams Kumar, MLA, and representatives of various local bodies. The people’s representatives said they would ask the State government to find a solution to construction-related issues at Pookode. The Centre had earmarked Rs.100 crore for the infrastructure development of the university.

Work estimated to cost Rs.50 crore had started. Work had to be stopped a few months ago following stay orders issued by the High Court and the National Green Tribunal. Subsequently, the university decided to shift the works to other campuses.

Projects

The projects which were to be shifted out included, the international faculty gust house (Rs.3.6 crore), central training complex (Rs.5 crore), women’s hostel (Rs.3.6 crore), products and research centre (Rs.2 crore), indoor stadium, and students centre (Rs.8 crore ).

Vice Chancellor B. Ashok said a final decision in this regard would be taken after the board meeting in the second week of February.
