Kunhalikutty sets an electoral record

United Democratic Front candidate P.K. Kunhalikutty made an electoral record in the State on Monday when he secured 5,15,330 votes in the Malappuram byelection.

He became the first candidate in the State to get more than five lakh votes.

Although his predecessor E. Ahamed had got a record in margin (1.94 lakh votes), the total votes polled by Ahamed in 2014 was 4.37 lakh.

Till now, K.C. Venugopal had the record for the highest number of votes. He polled 4.62 lakh votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
