The Kudumbasree Mission is organising Onam melas in 81 centres in the district.
Besides being held in the 75 grama panchayats in the district, large-scale melas are being held in Kozhikode city and Koyilandy and Vadakara municipalities with the help of the local bodies.
The Kudumbasree Onam Melas in the district registered a gross sale of more than Rs.1 crore last year. The mission aims at a sale of Rs.1.5 crore this year.
The melas feature products of more than 4,000 Kudumbasree workers from various units. The units had received special funding from the mission to increase their production for Onam.
A variety of products, such as powdered cereals, curry masalas, instant curry mixes, traditional snacks, pickles, handicrafts, sanitary products, paper products, herbal products, spices, and dress materials, besides different types of vegetables produced by the Kudumbasree members through group farming are being showcased at the melas. The products of a particular Kudumbasree unit, if novel, are put up for sale in other melas.
