The Cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs.100 crore for the loss-making and cash-starved Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
This is part of a revival package under discussion at the Cabinet level. The package will require the KSRTC to restructure and effect changes to improve its functioning, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media after the Cabinet meeting.
Welfare pensionThe Cabinet allocated more than Rs.300 crore to clear arrears in payment of welfare pensions. Arrears up to December 31 last year would be cleared.
The Cabinet decided to upgrade 111 single teacher schools to primary schools. The Chief Minister said 65 per cent of the total cost would be sourced from the SSA Fund of the Central government and the balance borne by the State government.
A new arts and science college would be started at Kanjirakkudam in Pullor village in Kasaragod district as part of the government policy to have at lease one government college in every Assembly constituency. The college would initially have three courses. Teaching and non-teaching posts were sanctioned for the proposed college at Vengara in Malappuram district.
He said land would be provided for setting up a national museum named after cartoonist Sankar at Krishnapuram, near Kayamkulam, by the Department of Culture.
Regional offices of the Department for Development of Backward Communities would be set up in Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.
