KSEB to print bills in Kannada

Linguistic minorities in district to benefit

July 09, 2012 08:57 pm | Updated 08:57 pm IST - KASARAGOD:

In tune with the long-standing demand of a sizeable number of Kannada-speaking people in the district, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to accord official status to the language.

An order issued by KSEB Secretary S. Roopakala Jagath to the Chief Engineer (Distribution North) on June 28 said the board would make bimonthly invoices, issued to the power consumers in the district, in Kannada as well.

The decision was taken following the demands raised by the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, said B.V. Kakkillaya, its honorary president.

The Chief Engineer had issued an order to get spot bills and invoices printed in Kannada.

The board also allowed the Deputy Chief Engineer, Electrical Circle, Kasaragod to make necessary arrangements to print and issue spot bills/monthly invoices/receipt books/notices in Kannada, Ms. Jagath said in her order.

Expressing happiness over the decision, Mr. Kakkillaya said the Kannada Sahitya Parishad had urged various government departments to follow the suit.

“The authorities may take some time to implement the order as they would need to change the computer software,” he said.
