Krishna Iyer hails U.S. apex court ruling

The former Supreme Court Judge, V.R. Krishna Iyer, on Saturday termed ‘historic’ the U.S. Supreme Court judgment that upheld the healthcare law championed by President Barack Obama.

In a statement, Mr. Iyer said it made the life of the American a meaningful one, because the health insurance law assured every citizen, rich or poor, access to quality healthcare and a chance for survival. He pointed out that the law provided subsidies to help uninsured middle-class people pay the premiums and expanded federal healthcare for poor people. Chief Justice John Robert, who wrote the majority opinion, made “the poor the winners in the battle for the right to survival.” The rule of law was divine when it upheld the rule of life of every human, Mr. Iyer said.
