In a move signalling that he means business, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran on Wednesday announced a mechanism to evaluate the functioning of party Ministers, besides enforcement of the code of conduct announced sometime back.
As per the decisions taken at a meeting of KPCC office-bearers and District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, a five-member committee with the respective Ministers as chairpersons and a KPCC general secretary as convener will be set up for evaluating the performance of Ministers.
Mr. Sudheeran suggested that Congress-ruled local bodies not give sanction for liquor bars and stop processing all applications. The suggestion was made in view of news reports that local bodies were misusing the powers given to them to sanction liquor bars under the amended Akbari Act. Mr. Sudheeran said efforts would be made to hold discussions at various levels on this topic.
Addressing the KPCC office-bearers and DCC presidents meeting in the morning, Mr. Sudheeran said party funds should not be mobilised from shady characters. Efforts should be made to raise funds from the people at the local level. Similarly, Ministers should inform the DCC, block, and mandalam presidents concerned about their tour programmes. The KPCC will henceforth consider only those issues recommended by the DCCs. He nominated M.M. Hassan, Sooranad Rajesekharan, and Thampanoor Ravi to coordinate with the government the issues connected with the requirements of party workers.
