KPCC slams Modi

June 14, 2013 11:40 am | Updated June 10, 2016 10:54 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has become the first State unit of the Congress to adopt a resolution against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s recent decision to induct Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi into national politics. The resolution has dismissed the attempts of certain regional parties to forge a third front as irrelevant and impractical, saying this will only help the BJP cruise to power.

The resolution, adopted at a KPCC leadership meeting on Thursday, did not mention Mr. Modi by name, but expressed its apprehension at the impact of the BJP’s Goa national executive decision would have on the secular fabric of the country.

The resolution, moved by KPCC general secretary Lathika Subhash, said the induction of votaries of extreme communal politics into national politics was a matter of concern as it posed a threat to India’s secularism and development.

Later, addressing a press conference, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, replying to whether Mr. Modi’s entry will have its impact on Kerala politics, said the KPCC had only expressed the general concern of all secular forces that his entry would lead to a communal polarisation.
