The Kottakkal Vaidyaratnam P.S. Warrier Ayurveda College in Malappuram district will be the seat of the proposed Ayurveda University for the time being.

The varsity would function from the college initially and, if needed, more land would be acquired, Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar said in reply to a question by A.K. Balan and others in the Assembly on Thursday.

The initial works had commenced and the District Collector, Malappuram, had been made the Special Officer for the university. The aim of the varsity was to further develop Ayurveda and engage in research and studies, he said.

In reply to another question, the Minister said Rs.25 lakh was allocated in the budget in 2013 for the varsity and only Rs.2.11 lakh had been utilised.

Mr. Sivakumar said the Union Ministry of Health had intimated that it would not provide H1N1 medicines to the State.
