The government has reworked the number of deaths in Sunday's Puttingal temple firework disaster and put it at 108. Earlier, the government sources had spoken of 114 deaths.
The official death toll was issued on Thursday after Sathyan (40) of Poothakkulam in Paravur succumbed to his burn injuries. He had sustained more than 40 per cent burns and was under treatment at the government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram. He had also suffered a fracture of his backbone and ribs. He died at 10.45 a.m., a press note issued by the medical college's media coordinator said.
Officials communicated the revised death toll to an inter-departmental review meeting held this morning. The higher figure earlier was the result of duplication of some names, government sources said.
