E. Sreedharan, Principal Adviser to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), has said that the work on Kochi Metro will start soon as the tenders have almost been finalised.
He was speaking to The Hindu after inaugurating the Swami Sunildas Institute of Medical Science of the Sneham Charitable Trust at Muthalamada, near here, on Sunday.
He said the work would be completed within three years. The project, a long-cherished dream of the people, was planned in keeping with the cultural heritage and commercial significance of the city.
Safe mode of transport
The metro would be a safe, eco-friendly and economical mode of transport.
Asked about the possibility of extending the Aluva-Petta metro to Angamaly or Chalakudy, Mr. Sreedharan said a feasibility study for future expansion was being conducted.
He said the work on the monorail projects in Thiruvanathapuram and Kozhikode could be started this year as it got clearance from the Union government. Now the tenders had to be floated.
Monorail project
The 28-km monorail in Thiruvananthapuram, an elevated rail-based mass transport system, was being taken up by the Kerala Metro Rail Corporation.
It could be extended to Neyyattinkara in the south and places north.
