Kisan Sabha has demanded that a farmers welfare board be formed to give adequate help to them.
Welfare measures including medicare facilities should be provided, said Sathyan Mokeri, State general secretary of the organisation.
He said the government should constitute an agriculture commission to study the problems faced by farmers and the agriculture sector The commission should be a permanent set-up, he said in a statement.
The government should initiate measures to tackle issues pertaining to patta on agricultural land and farm loan recovery. Steps should be taken to expand the area under paddy cultivation in order to ensure adequate availability of grains for successful implementation of Food Safety Act.
National convention
The 19th national convention of Kisan Sabha will be held at Alappuzha from September 29 to October 1 here. CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran would inaugurate the meet, Mr. Sathyan Mokeri said.
Kisan Sabha national general secretary Atul Kumar Anjan, Agriculture Minister V.S.Sunil Kumar, Civil Supplies Minister P.Thilothaman, and others will speak.
A seminar on problems and prospects of farming in Kerala will be held on September 30. Minister for Forests, K.Raju, Planning Board vice chairman V.K. Ramachandran, Karshaka Congress State president Lal Varghese Kalpakavadi, Karshaka Sangham State Secretary K.V.Ramakrishnan and others will take part.
