The family of K. Madhusoodanan, 45, shot dead early Monday by a gang in an estate bungalow in Bundibugyo, Uganda, is in shock and grief.
His ancestral home at High School Kunnu, Kongad, near KPKR Higher Secondary School, where relatives and friends had gathered, was a picture of gloom.
The information reached here from Magesh Nair, Madhusoodanan’s brother-in-law, employed in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Madhusoodanan, the estate manager, and his aide from Gujarat, were shot dead in their quarters in a tea and coco plantation owned by Valash Agro. Madhusoodanan died on the spot and his aide died in a nearby hospital, Raghunath, the former’s nephew said. Hours before the incident, family members including Madhusoodanan’s mother, Sathyabhama, 75, had interacted with him on Facebook. He told them that he would reach home on leave on April 21 along with his wife, Manju, and daughters Meghana and Malavika, settled in Pune, Mr. Raghunath said. He was employed in Pune before moving to Uganda seven months ago. The family had contacted Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi through M.B. Rajesh, MP, and K. Achuthan, MLA, to expedite the formalities to bring the body home.
Mr. Ravi had contacted the Indian Embassy in Kampala and the post-mortem examination was done on Wednesday. The body was expected to reach here on Friday, Unnikrishnan Nair, elder brother of Madhusoodanan, said.
His wife and daughters reached here. Madhusoodanan’s siblings Gopakumar, Haridas, and Vijayalakshmi were also at their house at Kongad.
