More persons involved in the murder of Muthoot Group executive director Paul Muthoot George were reportedly apprehended by the police on Tuesday. Although the exact number of persons in the police net was unknown, a senior police official confirmed that Kaari Satheesh, who allegedly stabbed George, is among them.

Satheesh was apprehended by one of the various teams that have been searching in at least four districts for those involved in the murder. Police teams are looking out for 11 persons, who are members of the 22-strong gang that allegedly had an altercation with George and killed him, in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts. They are also trying to locate Omprakash and Rajesh from Thiruvananthapuram, who were described as having a criminal record, and were reportedly traveling with George. Eleven members of the gang were arrested on Monday.

A police official said on condition of anonymity that Satheesh was in the net, but added that the police may not present him before the media on Tuesday or even announce his arrest as this could hamper efforts to trace the rest of the gang.

Meanwhile, the 11 persons, whose arrests were recorded on Monday and announced by Vinson M. Paul, Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam Range), were presented before the Ramankary Judicial Magistrate in the small hours of Tuesday. A large media contingent waited for visuals of the accused at the magistrate’s residence at Perunna in Changanassery from 5 p.m. on Monday. The police, however, produced them only at around 1.30 a.m. The formalities took nearly an hour and the accused were remanded till September 5. They were then shifted to the Alappuzha Sub-Jail.

The 11 who were arrested belong mostly to Changanassery, while a few are from Thiruvananthapuram. Mr. Paul revealed their names, but said further details were held back since disclosure could hamper a proposed identification parade as well as the investigation. Those arrested were Sattar, Rajeev Kumar, Shino Paul, Akash, Satish Kumar, Sunil, Nibin, Anish Kumar, Binoy Markose, Jain Jose and Jayachandran.

The police have issued a lookout notice for Omprakash and Rajesh to all airports in the State.
