The Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) will provide training to 50,000 higher secondary school students in local self-governance.
Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer will inaugurate the programme in Thiruvananthapuram on November 18, KILA Director P.P. Balan said. Ministers V.S. Sivakumar and P.K. Abdu Rabb will attend the function.
“The programme is aimed at creating awareness among children of local governance and ensuring their participation in the Panchayati Raj system. The programme is part of KILA’s efforts to improve people’s participation in local governance,” he said.
The training programme will start for 200-odd select higher secondary schools across the State from November 25.
A 45-minute video on ‘Power to people’ will be screened in each school as part of the training. A written examination will be conducted on the basis of the video screening. The students who win the first three positions will be selected for the district-level examinations.
Selected schools from all 14 districts will participate in the State-level competition. A written test will be conducted for them, and six teams will be selected for the final round. Winners will be given a trophy and certificate, Mr. Balan said.
A State-level meeting of district coordinators and resources teams to review the preparations for the training was inaugurated by Mr. Balan.
KILA assistant professor J.B. Rajan presided over the meeting.
