Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government will have to consider many things before implementing the Supreme Court order on reinstatement of senior IPS officer T.P. Senkumar as the State Police Chief (SPC).

Speaking to newspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Vijayan said the Supreme Court was the ultimate legal authority in the country. “At the same time, the government will have to consider certain things before implementing the order,” he said.

Mr. Senkumar was removed from the post of SPC soon after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government assumed power in 2016.

In a legal battle against the government, Mr. Senkumar had won a favourable order from the Supreme Court on April 24 for his reinstatement.

As his reinstatement was delayed, Mr. Senkumar approached the Supreme Court again for contempt charges against Chief Secretary Nalini Netto.

The Chief Minister said that one could not expect an order to be implemented the very next day. “If the verdict is delivered today, the government cannot implement it tomorrow. The government will implement it after considering several related matters,” he said.

Mr. Vijayan said the problem was only for those who thought that the order would be implemented the day after the judgement was delivered
