The youth in Kerala are really the victims of several spoilt opportunities as a result of the anti-development campaigns spearheaded by some segments against the growth of Information Technology in the beginning, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the activities of the Calicut University Union, at Jaya auditorium here, on Saturday.

Mr. Chandy said that Kerala had been witnessing a series of protests against computerisation when the entire world was hopefully looking at it for faster growth. “Currently, Karnataka is far ahead of Kerala in IT resources though we had every possible opportunity to progress rapidly in the sector,” he pointed out.

YES success

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the warm response of the youth to some of the initiatives of the government for nurturing entrepreneurship. “The Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES) organised in Ernakulam, was just an example for the same as it drew the active participation of over 4,800 youngsters, including college students,” he said.

University union chairman K.M. Abhijith presided. Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, Minister for Panchayats M.K. Muneer, M.K. Raghavan, MP, and Pro Vice Chancellor K. Raveendranath were present.

The union leaders also announced their plan to launch a new campaign — “Yes to Life, No to Drug” on October 2 to create awareness among students on drug abuse. The campaign would go on till October 31, they added.
