The Kerala unit of the Janata Dal (United) has decided to come out of the national outfit in protest against Nitish Kumar’s decision to break up the ‘Grand Alliance’ and join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Party’s state president and Rajya Sabha member M.P. Veerendra Kumar announced the decision at a news conference in New Delhi a while ago. “I call upon JD(U) MPs to stand up against this. I call upon Sharad Yadav to stand up against this,” he said.

In Kerala, party secretary general Varghese George said Mr. Kumar’s decision is unacceptable to the Kerala unit. “If there is a strong resistance at the national level, we will stand with it. If not, we will have no other option but to come out and remain a State party,” he told TV channels.
