Kerala to seek Rs. 100 cr from Centre for endosulfan relief

The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide free rations to the victims of endosulfan in the State and approach the Centre for assistance to form a special relief fund for them.

Briefing the media on the decisions, Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said that Rs. 100 crore would be sought as urgent assistance from the Centre. An all party delegation would go to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and request a ban on manufacture and use of endosulfan in the country.

The Chief Minister said that Cabinet had approved the special package for the victims decided on at the conference convened by him to review relief activists on Tuesday. The financial assistance to victims and their families would be increased. The exact quantum of increase would be decided after hearing from the Centre on its contribution. All affected families would be given free rations.
