The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to strictly enforce safety regulations for tourist boats in the State.

The State Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan told the media after the Cabinet meeting that various recommendations of the Pareed Pillai Commission that enquired into the boat tragedy at Thattekkad would be acted upon.

The unified Act and rules on water transport would be enforced as recommended by the Commission. R. M. Nair, who had been entrusted with drawing up of the rules, had submitted his report only last month and

they would be enforced urgently.

The Chief Minister also said that action would also be taken on the basis of the report of the Crime Branch and the Collector on the boat tragedy at Thekkady. The Government had already written to the Chief

Justice of the Kerala High Court seeking the services of a serving judge for the judicial enquiry into the accident.
