Making Kerala the first 100 per cent digital State in India in the next three years, extending the fruits of e-governance to the entire population, is the mission and vision of the United Democratic Front Government, Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, has said.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating the e-district programme at a State-level function held at the St Stephen’s auditorium in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday afternoon.
With the implementation of the project across the State, people could easily avail service of any Government department from their homes or from any part of the State, he said.
Mr. Chandy said Kannur and Palakkad were the two districts that have been included in the Centrally-sponsored National e-Governance Programme among the 34 districts across the country as a pilot project which turned out to be a big success.
He said the State Information Technology Mission has done excellent homework before launching the e-district programme envisaging effective implementation of e-governance across the State. The success of the pilot project in Kannur and Palakkad has given strength and hope to the Government in launching the e-district programme to all the other districts, exploiting the potential and advantages of the Information Technology, he added.
Aadhar registration
Mr. Chandy said Kerala has set the target to achieve cent per cent Aadhar registration in the next six to eight months to become the first State to provide the unique identification to all its people in a time-bound manner.
Of the 3.3 crore population, the State’s Aadhar registration has crossed 2.53 crore and of them 1.6 crore people have already been allotted with their Aadhar cards, he said.
Secretariat file tracking system
The Chief Minister said, “Secretariat file tracking system has already been implemented and now, people can track their application from anywhere in the world, ensuring transparency in the functioning of various Government departments.”
He said the e-district programme would be implemented through the Akshaya Centres and the Government would extend all support to these centres as and when required.
Presiding over the function, P.K. Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries and IT, said the Akshaya project launched by the previous UDF Government was the beginning of the electronic revolution in the State. And, now, the Government has launched the e-district programme as a great leap in its march ahead, he said.
Revenue Minister, Adoor Prakash, inaugurated distribution of electronically generated nativity certificates and residence certificates to three applicants from Konni, Puthuppally and Malappuram, on the occasion.
P.H. Kurien, IT Principal Secretary, presented the report. K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA; Babu George, District Panchayat president; T.O. Sooraj, Land Revenue Commissioner; V.N. Jithendran, District Collector and A. Sureshkumar, municipal chairman, also spoke.
