Kerala School Sastrolsavam begins

10,000 students expected to take part in the four-day festival

The Kerala State School Sastrolsavam 2017-18 that encompasses the annual State-level science, mathematics, social science, IT and work experience fairs besides Vocational Expo will be officially opened by Education Minister C. Ravindranath at the Malabar Christian college ground here on Friday. The festival had an unofficial beginning on Thursday with Director of Public Instruction K.V. Mohankumar hoisting the festival flag.

The Career Fest as part of the Vocational Expo, the only major event on Thursday, proved to be a grand affair marking the highest turnout (3623) and highest placement (895) in the 13 years of Career Fest history. Science Quiz for UP, Higher Secondary and Talent Search Examination for High School were also held.

Around 10,000 students are expected to take part in around 220 events in the four-day festival which will close on Sunday. The registration of all events is being carried out at GVHSS Nadakkavu.

The Science Fair will be held at St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls High School, GVHSS and St. Angelas Anglo Indian UP School while the Mathematics Fair will be held at St. Joseph’s Boys’ HSS.

The Social Science Fair will be held at BEM Girls’ Higher Secondary School and the Work Experience Fair at Malabar Christian College Higher Secondary School. GVHSS, Nadakkavu will be the venue for the IT Fair while the Vocational Expo and Career Fest are being held at Government Model Higher Secondary School.

The Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) Science Expo to be held at GVHSS on November 25 is a novel event in the Science Festival this year.

The expo, organised in association with National Institute of Technology, Calicut and Regional Science Centre and Planetarium, Kozhikode as part of the RMSA ‘Talent Hunt’ consists of a workshop on Robotics, Analytics, Astronomy, IT and Social Innovation as well as exhibition by talented students.

The expo will be opened by MLA A. Pradeep Kumar on Friday. Seminar and discussions are also part of the expo.

Around 3000 special children will take part in the Special School Work Experience Fair to be held at Malabar Christian College ground on Friday. There are 12 events for the visually challenged and 24 events for the hearing impaired.

Green Protocol is being followed in the event ensuring that no plastics or other non-biodegradable materials are left around. Special Green Volunteers have been deployed in all venues for the purpose.

A Food Court has been opened for the participants at Gujarati school premises. Packaged food will be provided for students taking part in on-the-spot competitions.
