The Kerala government on Tuesday said the State faced a sharp demand and supply gap in electricity, but expressed confidence that the situation can be managed without any curbs on power comsumption.
The total generation potential, mostly from hydel sources, was just enough to meet the demand for 200 days, Kerala’s Power Minister, A. K. Balan, told the State Assembly on Tuesday.
The situation could become worse if the North East monsoon failed, he said.
However, the government has no intention to impose any restrictions on power consumption and an action plan to manage the situation had already been worked out, the Minister informed the House during question hour.
If any regulations in consumption were required, they would be worked out in such a way that the people would not face any difficulty, he said.
The Kerala State Eelectricity Board planned to conduct a public contact programme to address the problem of voltage deficiency being felt in some parts of the State, he said
