The Kerala Karshaka Sanghom district meet began with a call for a united fight of the working class, above all political differences, against imperialist forces.
Inaugurating the two-day district meet at the Balan Vaidyan Nagar (Royal auditorium) here on Friday, the Sanghom State joint-secretary, P. Krishnaprasad, alleged that the indiscriminate liberalisation policy pursued by the Union government was a major threat facing independent India.
Mr. Krishnaprasad alleged that the Free Trade Agreement signed by India with the Association of South East Asian Nations would adversely affect the agriculture sector.
The Sanghom district president, K.P. Chandrashekhara Kurup, presided over the inaugural function.
Mr. S.K. Achari, Sanghom State joint secretary, presented the organisational report and Mr. Omalloor Sankaran, district secretary, presented the district report on the occasion.
Ms. G. Ponnamma, Sanghom State committee member, Mr. K. Ananthagopan, CPI(M) district secretary, Mr. P.G. Purushothaman Pillai, Mr. A. Padmakumar, Mr. Prakash Babu, district committee members, Mr. George Mathew, Sanghom office-bearer and Mr. N. Sajikumar, DYFI district secretary, also spoke.
Public meeting
The two-day meet would come to a close with a rally of farm workers followed by a public meeting in the town on Saturday afternoon.
Law Minister M. Vijayakumar will inaugurate the public meeting to be held at the private bus stand at 5 pm. Mr. C.K.P. Padmanabhan, Sanghom State secretary, Mr. George Mathew, Ms. G. Ponnamma, Sanghom leaders, Mr. R. Unnikrishna Pillai, Mr. K. Ananthagopan, Mr. V.K. Purshothaman Pillai and CPI(M) leaders will also address the public meeting.
