Kerala gets its first total yoga village

In Kunnamthanam, at least one member of every family is trained in the discipline

It was a memorable day for the people of Kunnamthanam which became a complete yoga village with at least one member of each family in the panchayat trained in yoga.

Grama panchayat president K.K. Radhakrishna Kurup declared Kunnamthanam as Kerala’s first total yoga village at a public function held at the NSS Higher Secondary School grounds at the village headquarters on Thursday.

Youhanon Mar Chrysostomos, the Metropolitan of the Thumpamon diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church, inaugurated the public meeting.

S.V. Subin, district panchayat member; Sosamma Thomas, block panchayat president; K. Ananthagopan, Kerala State Shops and other Commercial Establishments Employees Welfare Board chairman; Kunjukoshy Paul, block panchayat vice president, and K. Mohammed Rasheed, Deputy Excise Commissioner, also spoke on the occasion.

M.G. Dileep, noted yoga instructor, and Thejus S. Nair, a Class 5 student who stood first in the State Yoga Championship, were felicitated on the occasion.

Public session

A public yoga session attended by as many as 3,000 people, including children and senior citizens, was also held as part of the celebrations.

According to the panchayat president, as many as 10,000 people attended the yoga training sessions organised by the panchayat during the past 80 days.
