The Kerala government has declared a week-long mourning and ordered a holiday on Friday under the Negotiable Instruments Act as a mark of respect to Governor M.O.H. Farook.

All major official functions have been cancelled and the national flag would fly at half-mast during the period of mourning, government sources said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy left for Puducherry via Chennai early Friday morning to attend the funeral of the Governor, which is scheduled to take place in Puducherry at 4.30 on Friday evening.

The Kerala Public Service Commission and the Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi and Calicut universities have postponed examinations scheduled for Friday.
