The Kerala High Court, on Thursday, refused to expunge remarks against the mode of appointments of government pleaders and public prosecutors in the State.
Unhappy with the remarks made by Justice Harun Al Rashid against them, 107 government pleaders, on Wednesday, filed a petition to recall the order against their conduct and appointments.
When the petition came up before the judge on Thursday, he refused to expunge his remarks and criticised the style of functioning of government pleaders and public prosecutors.
He dismissed the petition.
The government pleaders had complained that in the absence of any official records or evidence to arrive at a conclusion, the court was not justified in making sweeping generalisation and accusations against them as a class by itself.
The judge had on September 6 observed that government should give proper attention in the matter of handling cases in the High Court and stressed that professional hands with experience should be selected as pleaders and prosecutors for conducting cases rather than making the appointments on political and other considerations.
While hearing another case, a Division Bench, headed by Justice S. Sirijagan, endorsed the views of Justice Rashid.
