The Kerala State Construction Workers’ Federation (KSCWF), affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), will lay siege to the Secretariat on October 9.

The federation is seeking the State government’s intervention to end the crises in the construction sector, amendment of welfare benefits to construction workers, and redress sand scarcity.

Federation president K.P. Sahadevan said at a press meet in Kannur on Wednesday that 50,000 construction workers would take part in the siege.

A ‘jatha’ to mobilise public support for the siege would start from Kasaragod on September 20 and conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on October 7. CITU State president Ananthalavattom Anandan would inaugurate the march on September 20. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the siege, he said.
