: Activists of Kerala Students Congress (M), the student wing of the Kerala Congress (M), clashed outside the party headquarters here on Sunday.
The altercation broke out when the KSC (M) leaders meet held at the party headquarters was marred by factional demands by those owing allegiance to K.M. Mani and supporters of beleaguered party vice chairman P.C. George. While Mr. George’s supporters wanted the meeting to adopt a resolution censuring Mr. Mani, those toeing the official line opposed it following which a verbal conflict ensued. Soon it escalated into a physical clash in which at least one person was injured and the windows of the headquarters building were broken.
With the police arriving at the headquarters building to bring back normality, the warring factions took their fight to the streets.
Thos supporting Mr. Mani later burnt Mr. George in effigy at Thirunakkara, in the heart of the town.
Following the violence, the police have strengthened security for the KC (M) headquarters building in the town.
