The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) has developed seedless hybrid cucumber for poly-house cultivation.

The parthenocarpic hybrid of cucumber is an ideal crop for poly-house farming.

The price ranges from Rs. 5-7 per seed.

The indigenously developed parthenocarpic hybrids will be available to farmers within a year.

This was the first such cucumber hybrid developed by a public sector research team in South India, KAU officials said.

The research team was led by T. Pradeepkumar, Associate Professor, Department of Olericulture, College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara.

“Cucumber is an ideal vegetable for poly-house cultivation. Time-bound action for making available this technology to the farming community is the next step,” KAU Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Rajendran said.

Seeds of the new hybrid cucumber are expected to reach the farming community within a year.
