M.B. Rajesh, M.P has said the Union Railway Minister Pavan Kumar Bansal and the Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mithal have assured the MPs of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), who met them in Delhi on Monday, that the work of the Kanjikode Railway Coach Factory will be completed in a time-bound manner.
A statement issued by the Minister said the Railway Minister told the MPs that the Request For Qualification (RFQ) of coach factory would be issued soon. The official level discussions on the matter were going on and the final decision on it would be announced during the discussion on the Railway Budget in Parliament.
Mr. Rajesh also said the Railway Minister had assured that the Palakkad-Pollachi gauge conversion work would be completed in 2013 and an amount of Rs.100 crore was sanctioned for it. The project was also included in the priority list of works, he said.
The statement said the Minister had also promised that the Ernakulam-Palakkad, Ernakulam-Thrissur-Palakkad MEMU train services would be inaugurated in March itself.
The Minister also assured the MPs that the technical stop now allowed for Duronto and Garib Rath at Shoranur Railway station would be made a commercial stop.
