Kalpathy Car Festival concludes

November 17, 2011 11:10 am | Updated 11:10 am IST - PALAKKAD

The chariots of the Viswanathaswamy temple and its three satellite temples at Kalpathy converged on Wednesday evening marking the end of the Kalpathy Car Festival.

Thousands of people from different parts of the country and abroad attended the three-day festival.

On Wednesday morning, the idols of the Old Kalpathy and Chathapuram temples were taken out on a procession. By evening, the chariots returned to their base and ‘abhishekam' was performed. The idols were then taken out on another procession on a floral palanquin around midnight.

The palanquin was taken back to the temple by dawn on the first day of the Tamil month of Karthigai, coinciding with the Kadamukham festival in Mayuram.
