Kalamandalam fellowship, awards announced

Kerala Kalamandalam fellowship, awards, and endowments for 2012 have been announced.

Kathakali maestro Sadanam Krishnankutty has been selected for the fellowship, which carries a purse of Rs.25,000, a citation, a plaque, and a ponnada.

Actor Chavara Parukutty has been chosen for the Kalaratnam prize, which carries a purse of Rs.10,000, a citation, and a ponnada.

The awards go to Kalamandalam Balasubramanian (Kathakali Vesham), Kalamandalam P.G. Radhakrishnan (Kathakali Sangeetham); Kalamandalam Unnikrishnan (chenda), Kalanilayam Babu (maddalam), Kottakkal Balakrishnan (chutti), Kalamandalam Sreedharan Nambeesan (thimila), Kalamandalam Vijaya Mukundan (dance), P. Damodaran Nair (Krishnanattom), Thamarakudi Karunkaran (Thullal), and Sree Kumar (best book on art and culture).

The awards carry a purse of Rs.15,000, and a ponnada each.

Kathakali actor Kalamandalam Vaisakh, writer Kalpetta Balakrishnan, dancer Rajashree Warrier, and actor Ettumanur Kannan have been selected for the Yuvapratibha Award (Rs.3,000), Mukundaraja Smrithi Puraskaram (Rs.5,000), V.S. Sharma Endowment (Rs.3,000), and the Bhagavathar Kunjunni Thampuran Endowment (Rs.3,000) respectively.

The awards were decided by a committee comprising Kalamandalam Vice Chancellor P. N. Suresh (chairman), Pandalam Sudhakaran (vice chairman), Madavur Vasudevan Nair, Mankulam Krishnan Namboodiri, Kalamandalam Satyabhama, Vasanthi Menon, and Vattaparambil Gopinatha Pillai.

Speaker G. Karthikeyan will present the prizes at a function at Kalamandalam on November 9.
