Two forest officials were assaulted allegedly by actor Kalabhavan Mani at Kannankuzhi, near Athirappilly, on Tuesday night.
Range officer U.G. Ramesan and beat forester P. Raveendran sustained injuries on the chest, hands, legs and eyes. They were admitted to the Chalakudy Taluk Hospital. Mr. Raveendran was later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Mulankunnathukavu. His condition is serious.
The officials reportedly stopped a car in which Mani and his friends were travelling as part of a routine inspection. “Mani was at the wheel. Two other men and a woman were with him. The actor responded violently when he was asked to open the boot of the car... Mani and a person he addressed as doctor assaulted the foresters,” an official said.
The forest officials said that Mani was inebriated.
Jaya Gopinath, who was travelling with her husband Maliyekkal Gopinath and the actor, filed a complaint against the officials, complaining that the officials verbally abused her and misbehaved with her.
The police have registered cases against both Mani and the injured forest officials.
Mani and his friend were treated at a hospital at Chalakudy.
