Devaswom Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally has said that steps will be taken to ensure protection to temples against burglary in the context of temple theft cases in the State in recent months.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club here on Friday, the new Devaswom Minister said effective measures involving various agencies including the Police were required for checking increasing incidents of theft. Many temples in the State lacked protective mechanism against burglary. A meeting of the people's representatives, officers and police officials would be convened soon to chalk out measures against temple theft threat, he said, adding that Devaswom boards would also be involved in the initiative to protect the temples.
Mr. Kadannappally also said the government's top priority now was to provide infrastructure facilities for Sabarimala pilgrims. As part of launching preliminary steps, a meeting of people's representatives and officials would be convened at Erumeli, Panthalam and Chengannur on August 27, he said. Infrastructure arrangements had to be strengthened as the number of pilgrims from within and outside the State was increasing every year, he pointed out.
